Spend a full day in Monolithos and experience the authentic Rhodian village lifestyle. In this excursion you will have the opportunity to visit a magnificent part of Rhodes island. With the most hospitable local hosts you will visit the valley with the vineyards, the historical landmarks and take a dip in the cleanest blue waters of Rhodes. Then you will be escorted to the Greek House in the village for a ceremonial wine tasting.

For the wine tasting your host will be Manolis Karikas.

Manolis Karikas was born and raised on the island of the sun. He has dedicated his life and energy in harvesting his own vineyards at the foot of mountain of Akramytis. He feels blessed to produce some of the finest wines of Rhodes.

This wine came not only from the land but mostly from the heart. The vineyards and the knowledge he gained throughout his life are his greatest heritage. After his father passed away he decided to continue “the blessing” as he likes to think of the wine making process.

Today the soil of the Valley of Kimissala, located very near Monolithos, has inherited a specific character to his grape varieties. His vineyard, which is cultivated without any pesticides, produces enriched red and white wines such as Merlot, Cabernet, Mandilaria, Chardonnay, Athiri, Moschato.

As he very often says: “ I can’t help notice that during the harvest period, the more I talk and sing to my vineyards while on the Valley, the better the wine we have on our table to share with our friends”.

In 2013 he decided to open a traditional restaurant and a small shop in the village of Monolithos. The restaurant uses only local ingredients to produce authentic Greek tastes. In the shop they are offering the finest local products such as honey, olive oil and of course his exceptional wines.

In the basement of Greek House Restaurant there is an atmospheric vintage cellar. The wine there rests peacefully in barbells in perfect temperature and moisture to produce its great aromas. Here you will find wine making and bottling facilities as well as special equipment and wooden barrels for wine maturing and storage.

Visitors have the opportunity to experience ceremonial wine tastings. You will try 6 different varieties of wine each accompanied by a traditional Greek dish. The experience is focused in the synergy of taste that each wine and dish accomplish.

Giorgos Thyris in 2008 decided to return to the his heritage in Monolithos village. He always loved to share the natural beauty of the his birthplace with the everyone. Today he and his family put all their efforts, love and creativity to get people from all around the world to know the beauty they experience each day we wake up.

First you will visit the vineyards in the valley of Kimissala. There you will  you will walk along the hiking paths in the forest and the archaeological dig of the Necropolis. Then you will visit the Castle of Monolithos built by the Knights of St John. The castle is located on top of the monolith giving the name to the area. The view from there is simply breathtaking. Finally you will discover the peaceful bays like Alyki, and Fourni Beach, with their amazing crystal clear waters. There you can truly relax and enjoy all the beauty that this place has to offer.
